Emily Ruff is a community herbalist who has practiced the art and science of plant healing for two decades and serves as Executive Director of the Florida School of Holistic Living. She is dedicated to preserving bioregional medicinal plant traditions and ecosystems, in her local community and through work on the board of United Plant Savers. To nurture and cultivate community within her bioregion, she founded the Florida Herbal Conference in 2012, and served multiple terms as president of the Herb Society of Central Florida. Her recent work has focused on community resilience, mental health, and the possibilities of plant allies to support healing through trauma and grief. In response to the tragic shooting at Pulse Nightclub in 2016, Emily founded the Orlando Grief Care Project and the Herbal Action Network, weaving a web of compassionate herbalism into community engagement. She supported the development of similar models of outreach in other communities around the country, including Standing Rock, North Dakota, where she serves on the board of the Mni Wiconi Clinic and Farm.
